THIS EPISODE OF GROWING OLDER LIVING YOUNGER focuses on the importance of the complete orchestra of micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, trace elements and phytonutrients) in supporting brain health and optimizing cognitive function. Whether omega-3 fatty acids and B-vitamins or antioxidants such as carotenoids and anthocyanins from colourful fruits and vegetables, we discuss the science supporting their role in enhancing memory, improving focus, and promoting overall brain vitality. And naturally this same complete micronutrient orchestra is equally important to support overall metabolism for optimal wellness and energy.
Today’s Featured Expert is Bonnie Kaplan, PhD. Professor Emerita at the University of Calgary, and co-author, with Julia Rucklidge, of The Better Brain: Overcome Anxiety, Combat Depression and Reduce ADHD and Stress with Nutrition. After obtaining a PhD in experimental psychophysiology and a postdoc at Yale in neuroscience, Bonnie moved to Calgary, Alberta, where she studied developmental problems in children with a focus on the relationship of nutrition to brain development and behavior, at the Department of Pediatrics in the Children’s Hospital.
